License types

Level 1 ARCP

Adult residential care for 2 to 8 residents unrelated to the operator, in a setting designed like a single-family home. Chapter 68 gives personal care homes as the example. Source

Level 2 ARCP

Adult residential care for 9 to 16 residents in a congregate living setting. Chapter 68 gives shelter care homes as the example. Source

Level 3 ARCP

Adult residential care for 17 or more residents in independent apartments with kitchenettes. Chapter 68 gives assisted living facilities as the example. Source

Level 4 ARCP

The same apartment setting as Level 3 for 17 or more residents, plus intermittent nursing services. Source

Inspections and records

• LDH licensing surveys and complaint investigations of ARCPs are unannounced. Source
• Any statement of deficiencies LDH issues to an ARCP must be posted in a readily accessible place on the premises. It becomes available to the public 30 days after the provider receives it, or once LDH receives an acceptable plan of correction, whichever comes first (LAC 48:I §6823). Source
• LDH does not post ARCP inspection reports online. To get survey or complaint records, file a Health Standards public records request that names the facility and the survey or investigation date. Source
• Under La. R.S. 40:2009.14, HSS may decline to investigate an “outdated” report, meaning one about an incident that happened 120 or more days before it was reported. Report problems promptly. Source
• LDH publishes a monthly Licensed Providers Report spreadsheet that lists every licensed ARCP with its address, parish, license number and license dates. The list on this site comes from that report. Source
